We may still have some songs from the band "Brad sucks" that were used in GZ and for GZ2. They gave us permission to use them and provided split tracks too, we just never got around to putting them in. (we got a C&D around that time) I may also have a bunch of extra home-made songs from our old forum, I'll check when I get home from work. would be interested to know more on this, i wasn't too familiar with brad sucks but after doing some youtube searches i like what im hearing, if we could get similar permissions they would be exactly what we are looking for has potential, still very midi sounding in its current state

First off, let me say that I am ecstatic to see that another project has taken the place of, and surpassed, GZ2 as the nicely running GH clone. After seeing what little I did so far, I am very impressed. Anyways, I have a few cheesy tunes that you are more than free to use in PS. Since I am lazy, you can download the existing charts at my FoF post ( Link). Below are the Youtube links to the few songs of mine I did chart (a few of them are outdated tho). They're not quite production level sims (only expert and whatnot), but that can be fixed. Again, great work with the program! These are free to use: Melonman67 - Joob Chip - Co-op Drums OrignalMelonman67 - Newester - GuitarMelonman67 - Buddydoke - GuitarMelonman67 - Hoot - Co-opThese are a little trickier since they are covers of Tyrian 2k songs: Melonman67 & Zaghurim - Quest for Peace - Co-opMelonman67 - Sarah's Song*# - Co-opThis was made by a friend and I'm 100% sure he'd have no beef with you guys using it, but I can make sure if necessary: Akiraker - Lightgazer - Full Band

nice to see some more original content, it doesn't quite meet the criteria for what we need as bundle songs, as this will be a pretty small selection of more traditional songs, but its probably worth making a general post for these in the song section if you want to put up some links for people to check out

well, i have a quick question, were able to add songs that are copyrighted as long as we get permission from the artist correct?

is there any chance that if we did wind up asking permission, that a band could have premade content removed since custom songs have been made without permission already??? and is there any way, that in such an instance, they could attempt to harm the PS project in any way?

I'm sure the artists could ask to have the built-in songs withdrawn from Phase Shift, but if they gave consent to have songs included with the game, they can't really pursue damages unless Phase Shift's development team violated some kind of contract or something.

permission would need to be in a form that could be backed up, so something like your mates mate saying its fine wouldn't be considered enough, but this is really only an issue for bundled songs which will only be a small number of songs anyway
the brad sucks songs are ideal for what we need considering not only did the owner say its ok to use directly on the forum but their whole website is based around the free to use model, you have 1000's of visitors of the site who could backup the information and internet archives that cache websites that could be refered to if for some reason this information were to disapear from the site
but then its also a simple case to remove files if needed so i don't see any problems here

so basically, if i already fretted something by, let's say, journey, and i asked them to use a song, and they said no, could they force me to take it off of mediafire and not allow others to DL it?

Their legal staff could force you to remove it if they hadn't granted free use of the song, but since it wasn't bundled with Phase Shift, it doesn't affect the game in the slightest.

although I don't if they would be interested, this one indie band named The Murdochs would be a pretty cool fit for this project, and I bet that they would be cool with it. Also you guys could consider some artists from newgrounds such as Evil-Dog, maybe that would be a place worth looking.

it needs to be a real song not just a midi file, its a fine charting standard but not for listening to Well, that counts me out... But why not asking around at "Ultimate Metal"-forum? At the "Andy Sneap"-section, tons of talented bands and artists share their own songs as raw tracks (mostly DI's) for people to practice mixing. I have quite the collection myself. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you just ask them nicely to use their songs in the game.

Would there be any interest in approaching these people about partnering with DWSK to make their audio tracks available for Phase Shift? www.karaoke-version.com/You can get each instrument as a separate track using their "Custom Accompaniment Tracks." The downside is that, aside from a demo track or two, this would be something where users would have to buy the songs and it would probably cost more for a cover track than a Rock Band track of the original artist. The upside is that this would be a legal source of a large library of current music, probably of better quality than almost anything else readily available. My thought is that members of the DWSK community would do the Phase Shift authoring and that karaoke-version would sell the resulting Phase Shift Tracks. The PS authors could add something to the cost of the tracks so they would be paid for their authoring. If a Phase Shift author is willing to author for free, then the PS Track would cost the same as the corresponding Custom MP3 Track.

For the metal heads who play this game and want some free music for this, my band just released a demo of an instrumental (cleverly titled Instru-MENTAL) and we have multi-tracks for it (drums, guitars, and a bass track) for anyone willing to chart it for PS. Caution:Drums may kill someone.
Message me here or at FoF-FF (metallicaholic666) if you're interested. Ill send you the multis and the full song all in ogg format.
