Hey I just got a great idea, I think. Before any explanation, here's a little Wikipedia page I invite you to read : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AbandonwareAfter reading this, I tink we could use musics from these abandonwares for the game, don't you think so ? I have some ideas of musics that should fit, but before anything I want to know if it's possible to use them, from your point of view (and particularly knapman's and david's POV)

its very much a grey area, things would have to be judged on a case by case basis and if we can't get split audio from it then it wouldn't be suited for bundle content
i've seen some sites claiming to be for abandonware and they've had content that was clearly not, some people seem to think just not knowing who owns the ip is enough to claim its abandonware but we can't make assumptions like that as distribution is worse than download so if someone did object they'd be more likely to object to our use of the content
if it was something that was 100% known to be dead and not owned by anyone maybe there is potential but some care would be needed to identify what is actually ok to use and then add to that finding ones that you can make split tracks from

So we just proceed with caution.

I know that there are troubles to get splitted audio files, but why not trying to split it ourself ? Personnaly, I totally don't know anything about how to do this but maybe, by google-ing this, we can find solutions to have something usable. Then, for sure, we must do a case by case study of each music to see if we can use it/them. Here's a little first playlist to see what I was talking about at the beginning : Unreal Tournament - The Course : Xenon 2 - Megablast : Earthworm Jim - Buttville (The Descent) : Doom - Kitchen Ace (And Taking Names) : That's only a very short list, I can find many more that should fit

I understand you're not comfortable with MIDIs. But MODs do sound like an exception considering we got by with Cybernetix Theme, right?

good mods / sids / chiptunes are all fine
that list of games, every one of those mentioned are made by companies that are still around and active in the industry, none of them have even gone bust so theres really no question who owns the rights to those titles, excluding xenon 2 you can still easily purchase all of those games officially

Ok, now I better understand what you meant.
I'm gonna look for games that were made by companies that don't exist anymore, is that so ?
EDIT : Wait a minute, OK for Unreal and Doom, great games, great companies, they still exist. But for Earthworm Jim, what I found is that it was made for Virgin Interactive, that was renamed Avalon Interactive in 2003 but that now doesn't exist anymore. What do you think ?
