Before you play online, I think the game should scan both libraries and exclude the ones the the other doesn't have.

I was considering this idea when I was developing the Netplay. The only thing that held me back was the overhead of sending the song list between computers.
However, just showing a list of matching songs wouldn't be that usefull as if the list is quite large then it would be a nightmare to navigate. I was going to just show a green icon beside the songs that all the players have. That way you maintain your own directory structure.
I'm still considering it and might implement it at some point when I've had a good think on exactly how I'd pull it off.
Thanks David

I was going to say gray out songs not everyone has, which is pretty much the same thing david said.
This would be really helpful online.

i dont quite understand.. why cant everyone see their own directories but just have anything others dont have hidden? i mean if you can have a green light next to all the ones showing that others have them then why cant the songs with red lights (assuming there even would be red lights for songs you couldnt play) just be hidden instead of having to have lights next to everything? or maybe have an option that hides all unplayable songs.. if this cant work im kinda curious to know why

If the entire list is to be shown that is avalible to all players then there is alot of checking to be done. I'll explain what's needed. Each song needs to be hash checked. So lets say there are 5 players each with 2500 songs. Each player would need to scan everyone of it's songs and then perform a hash checks on each. Now this would take about 5 seconds to hash check and about 3 seconds to send that data to each of the players. (this is all dependent on CPU and Net speed of course). Once all players have sent their data to the other players the machine would now need to do a compare of it's own songs against all the other players. This would take about 3 seconds. so we are talking about 11 seconds to do this which is too long. Plus it's pretty messy sending all the lists arround. The other thing is privacy, A lot of people don't like the idea of sending there whole list of songs accross the net. It's still a possibility to do it like this but the current system isn't too bad at the moment. Thanks David
