I don't quite know yet how the gameplay style of this game is, but if you guys are up for trying new things, or plan on making a custom gameplay mode, I have something to suggest that I think would be cool. Basically, the idea would be to have a 'focus' mode or a streak bonus mode. If you hit a 100-note streak, and have (any amount) of starpower/overdrive , you can go into the streak mode. Every note you'd hit would be multiplied by 8.5x (instead of SP's 8x) and you'd receive an extra .75 seconds of focus mode per note. You'd drop out of the mode the second you miss a note though, and it would downgrade to normal starpower/overdrive. Of course, I am just spitting out untested numbers, we would have to check it out to get an idea of what to set them to. I think this would be a great change and add a lot of competition between the players. As for the effects, it would probably be difficult or impossible, but if you guys could handle the post processing to do something like this, it'd look sweet. Here is a render I made to demonstrate the looks of the mode. www.megaupload.com/?d=HIP79WAF (2 megabyte video) The background would be dark colored with a blur, fretboard turned dark and a few things will be glowing. (similar to a blacklight) The notes would become self-illuminated as well as other things like the meters. I know that if a mode like this were to be implemented, it would be far down the road, but I'm anxious to present the idea. It's been sitting with many others in a folder for the last 3 games that died.

I doubt it would, it's come WAY further than anything else. GZ was nice, but was never updated and messed up. GZ2 stopped early (cease and desist, thanks for emailing me Activision!) but it was playable. FOF is pretty ugly and doesn't feel good. FOFix had 2fps at all times for me... no matter what... Frontman didn't stand a chance. Rockfan was good but lack of motivation dropped the game when it was getting bigger. Out of all of these, Phaseshift has really been the only one to really get me excited again, and I really look forward to modding it and building/porting stages. It runs great, plays great, and feels like a legit console game. (rare feel to have) I seriously hope it doesn't end, or I'm out of the clone industry for good. I have tons of ideas and renders for aspects of the game, leftover stuff from the previous 4 failed games I worked with. I will probably post more ideas and stuff over time when it's relevant. BTW, I realized I uploaded the older version of the render. I attached the newer render below, but it really isn't much different other than being higher res and slightly different looks and wording. Check it out instead of the one above if you haven't seen any yet. www.megaupload.com/?d=D23TS5A7

Now with the Big Company's going over to "Real Instruments" it's getting to a point to where New Gaming Modes, would be the next step. IMO, i have no intrest in playing a game with real instruments, if I wanted to do that, i would pay the local Guitar Instructor for some lessons.

I was going to help out for a game similar to that, called LittleBigStar... It was remade as JamOrgin. (aka OffBeat Guitarist) However, after waiting for the release to come out for over 6 months, I gave up on it. LBS really wasn't as fun as the Rockband games anyway. These types of games are impossible to sightread, you pretty much have to know how to play the song before you play it. Plus, I had trouble getting the game to read any of my equipment, which is weird considering the fact I have tons of common studio gear and good instruments. (Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Drums, ect)
Needless to say, when the beta of OffBeat/JamOrgin arrived, I was really disappointed with it. (especially that they are going to be SELLING it instead of having it a game for free like LBS was) It's something that seems intuitive and revolutionary, but just isn't really that much fun

yeah I agree, using real instruments isnt as good as before, i mean I would only use it so I have a refresher on songs I already know how to play(having the tabs flow in front of you does help a little) but for games i prefer the buttons, and as for game modes thats a really good idea, especially unique ones, PS is the only game of this genre Ive seen that dosent copy GH or RB and is its own game, and I love that, and I think that PS should stay that way, thats just my opinion though, but Im sure Im not alone in this

I generally prefer traditional gameplay more than anything. GH2/RB2 style. Anything GH:WT+ I hated. I like to stay away from the stuff like open notes, tapos, sliders, ect.. It's nice to have some things new (stages, streak mode, ect) but nothing to mess with gameplay input itself. At least, that's my take.
The previous game I was helping out (Rockfan) was going to feature traditional gameplay mode, Gh:WT+ modes, and a custom mode where we'd put in our own fun stuff and challenges. Sadly, we never got that far (lack of motivation on behalf of the developer) but I think it'd be awesome to have that in Phaseshift.

ok see, I dont get why no one likes WT's stuff, I like alot of the features they added am I completely alone on that? lol anyway a switch would be pretty neat, maybe add a final option to allow all the modes together too, I think this thread needs broken though, its getting off topic lol

Adding more time to starpower/focus is a bad idea. Its just too strong of a score multiplier to really be fair. You could get focus and miss one note and its like your whole points are screwed. Theres no way to get back up. Regularly you miss a note, you lost about 20,000 or 40,000 points getting back up to 4x or 8x with starpower, but this could be the difference between like 100,000 and 1,000,000. But the general idea is good. Phase Shift would do well to have a game mode called Phase Shift. But I imagine that would be some mixture between altered starpower and battle mode attacks. The fretboard spinning around the the screen and stuff . But to your idea, but I think it needs to be downgraded a bit. Maybe like at 200 notes you reach focus and regardless of starpower you start holding a 5x note streak? I don't know, I'm not much for ideas regarding starpower.
