phase shift hasnt seen a update in a while. i know the devs have full time jobs and familys but maybe they be more active if they started a patreon campaign i be welling to support them. they could use the platform to keep the only patreon supporters in the loop. like every week just a quick touch of base like working on revamp music streams system or working on getting mini games online. also it would be more of a reliable source of income then donating one in a while im supporting a campaign for $8 a month even if just 3 of us did the minimum say $8 that still $24 for server cost

They got a PayPal donate button on the DWSK website. Sure, it's not as automated or has as much coverage as Patreon, but it's there. dwsk.co.uk/

Look, patreon, kickstarter, et al aren't perfect but they offer the 'investor' at least something to look at. Throw a plan together about what is being worked on or will be worked on and I imagine you'll get more support. "a paypal button" may as well be a black hole. fwiw

I think you overestimate the amount of donations they get, probably nowhere near enough to warrant a business plan of some kind. I'd be surprised if they get enough to pay for hosting their website.

web hosting these days isn't costly, especially since all the 'files' for this game are hosted elsewhere, and those too are typically free cloud storage hosts.
not looking for a business plan but features for the next version, any kind of roadmap that suggests a donation go toward something, etc ... you know the things that patreon, kickstarter, et al make simple. an update would be nice as the game/community feel pretty stagnant. i say that as someone who only recently found out about phase shift.

My understanding is that free storage hosts generally don't allow enough storage/bandwidth to allow for a website with much of any traffic.

Isn't this a free forum even?
Look I'm new to this game. Last update was 2015. I don't particularly have any real problems with the game, as is it functions for my needs.
I'm willing to pitch in towards an update, but what does someone like me have to go on as regards to the life/activity level of this project? Do note, my words have zero malice towards the team that made this game. I think its cool, but, with no updates in over two years that means only one thing, development has been essentially abandoned.
which is fine, the game works. just saying with no activity since 2015 i wouldn't expect many to come out of pocket with no idea as to what they're coming out of pocket for.

Phase Shift has a website outside of this forum (http://dwsk.co.uk/). Proboards seems like it's closer to "freemium", where basic usage is free as long as everybody looks at ads.

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to give an insight into how our server list works. Each game server checks in with our main server list every 5 seconds. The amount of active servers range from 0-15 with an average of around 5. This means we get millions of hits per month from these servers just updating their status.
5 servers x 12 hits per minute x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 28 days = 2,419,200.
This figure is not including the clients browsing this list when picking a server and general web browsing dwsk.co.uk.
Though our hits are high our bandwidth is small, but it's still enough to push past fair usage terms of most "unlimited" web hosts.
It is also important for the list to be reliable and gauging from the absence of complains regarding the online server list I can only assume they are fit for our purposes. Cheaper hosts will go down frequently as they manage bandwidth for their VIP customers.
Even with the generous donations we receive from time to time we have always run this game at a loss. We are happy to continue doing this for the foreseeable future as its clear people are still enjoying the game. It’s quite humbling when I often see 20 players in the server list.
Thanks again for your support! David
