Okay so I can't find much info on the topic of the Rock Band 4 Instruments compatibility with Phase Shift so I went and bought the PS4 ones and tested them out myself. I had to get a USB bluetooth adapter for my pc which was super cheap but once I did the instruments would sync with the PC, and I had to update the firmware on them to get them to display their names correctly in Windows 7.
Despite connecting and updating there was no response from Phase Shift when either instrument was interacted with. However signals were being received as Windows detected them as Human Interface Devices and understood what they were. I had to use XPadder to take the guitar and drum inputs and assign them keyboard presses which as you know with PS is a little tricky unless you go through and figure out all the mappings from the numbers.
So I did get them to work more or less, there's a ton of functionality lost however.
PS4 Rock Band 4 Wireless Guitar
- Whammy bar seemingly not recognized at all
- Effects switch seemingly not recognized at all
- Tilt function not recognized as any kind of input
- Lower neck buttons treated as the top, so no solo tapping
- It doesn't like any more than the expected buttons to be pressed
as I remember it RB would allow you to hold buttons above the current button without interfering? I could be wrong.
Some of this could well be just stuff that PS doesn't support, I'm quite new to it so please excuse my ignorance if that's the case! It could also be the limitations of Xpadder.
The Rock Band Drums however worked pretty awesomely. Just had to switch the drum setup to 4 Lane Mode in the options and it was off to a flying start. Kick and everything working fine and I don't doubt you can just add on the extra cymbals as usual and set the lanes higher.
It might be worth reposting this on Reddit for awareness but I'd rather get the details straight with you pro's first. Also hopefully this is new news, not just something others have already figured out and I just couldn't find!
Please let me know your thoughts.
Kind regards, Klaus.
