alright... i've just about finished a general note shape model... once that's done, how do i get it involved with the game itself?? i know i need to do something mesh related, but that's where my knowledge ends since i don't really know how to get them to show up/work in-game

u would get a directx format exporter such as pandasoft and export the model

alright, what about HOPO notes? how are those differentiated from the regular ones?? do you have to make a seperate model for them? (i'd assume so, but after playing with the standard notes, i found they are somehow derrived from the normal, non-hopo notes somehow because they share a 2d file i think?) the png format files...
also, the notes work in the game, except all the non HOPO notes look exactly the same with no color changes... i have no clue what to do at this point...

the hopo note has its own mesh but currently shares the same texture, we will eventually make this more flexible but it is a hardcoded optimisation right now as both notes were so similar we didn't need a seperate file
both notes can still be textured normally even if you want completely unique textures, just need to have suitable uvmapping that can be merged without overlap

i don't know anything about what that means... what should i look up to figure out how to do that?? as of right now, it just shows the model from 3ds in it's standard color for all notes that aren't HOPOs... the HOPO notes are still normal phase shift notes...

nvm, i've created a texture uv map... sadly, i don't know how your HOPO system works since it uses different models and the same texture map... so basically i'm screwed at this point...

basically, if you or anyone else can try and help me out, since i'm like... halfway done already, that'd be appreciated =] THINGS I'D NEED TO KNOW 1. how to apply the textures to the model in game 2. how to create the HOPO notes (because i think they use the same texture as the normal notes) 3. general model and texture relationships that are necessary to note
thanks much!
also, if you want, i can upload my current work so you can see if i'm doing it right/if it works, etc.

1. textures for the notes are assigned automatically in game based on the filename, its not something you need to do yourself, just replace your custom files with the ones that are already there and the game does the rest
2. if you don't understand how to create uvmapping for multiple objects that share a texture then maybe it would be easier if you made the normal note and hopo note the same object, then uvmapped them, then split the objects, this would give the same result so while uvmapping just consider the normal note and the hopo 2 parts of the same object
3. well normal textures, PS textures and miss textures are all going to be sharing the same mesh as they are the 3 main states for the same note to be in
i think drum (tom) notes and guitar notes share the same texture, so its a similar situation to the hopos, either give the drum notes the same texture or merge its uvmapping, this is also likely something that will be changed in future when we extend the theme support as its another optimisation specifically for our setup, drum notes originally were the same as guitar notes, having their own mesh was quite a recent change
the slider note texture i believe links to the hopo mesh, so this can only be a texture edit at the moment
textures with a 2 at the end are just the cymbal textures linked with the cymbal mesh
the PS activation note is the only one that is really different from the rest as it has 2 textures, it flicks between the 2 for a visual effect
feel free to post a screenshot / render of your progress

i understand the uvmapping for a single mesh/model, but what i don't know how to do is get two meshs/models to use only one texture map... if you can steer me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it, however i will do some research now and see if i can't find out myself...

okay... for simplicity, would it work if i made both my normal guitar note, and the HOPO note in the same 3ds file, and then created a uvmap for them BOTH.. but for the .x files, i had them separated... would the game recognize that and use only the one uvmap for BOTH models/meshes??? assuming i didn't change anything at all (like polygon count, # of sides, etc)
also, my uvmap doesn't like me apparently, as it won't change the color of any notes... the notes stay the same color as they were in 3ds.... is there something i'm missing here??

you just need to setup your uvmaps for both objects so they don't exist in the same 2d texture space, ie uvmap object 1 and keep everything on the left half of the area, uvmap object 2 and keep everything on the right half of the area and that would be fine

i have no clue how i would do that, i've spent upwards of an hour at least looking up some kinda help, to no avail... also, any idea why it won't change colors and only stays as the color it was in 3ds?

youtube has multiple videos that cover the entire uvmapping process in detail so theres no need to hunt around, all the answers are there in one place

i've already looked, and tried everything the youtube videos tell me... the problem i'm having, is that after i've made my uvmaps, they don't show up correctly in the game, they just show the 3ds model in whatever color it was before, or, the color is very dull/can't be seen well at all... i'll continue to play around, as i may have hatched an idea just now...
