basically, what is necessary to create new notes, starpower activation/in use boards/effects, new necks, new backgrounds, and possibly alter some things with the rock meter and actual frets at the bottom of your guitar neck...
what do i need program-wise, what do i do to implement them, what do i need to know how to do, that kind of stuff... if there is anything important that i should just know because it's important, please inform me of that as well...
much appreciated!! hopefully i'll be able to create something pretty cool if it's not to complicated...

create new notes: you need a program like 3DS max and a program that can save in .X format. to edit tectures/colors of the current notes the textures are located in the "Notes" folder
the SP neck graphic is a basic PNG image located in the "board" folder and is named "Neck_PS.png" the side bars are in the same folder and are called "Board_Sides_PS.png"
I dont think there is a way to alter anything but the textures with the meters, the meter textures are located in "Meter" and "Frets"
necks are the same as FoFiX except they are not upside down. the necks are located in the "Necks" folder
backgrounds:
2D is a basic, PNG picture, its what FoFiX currently uses
2D Abstract, is a a few PNG images over laying over each other and moving
3D Stage, is currently un editable, all you can change is the png pictures located in the "3D_stage" folder (me and a cool have tried alot on this part)
and then video background, basically all you need is a video in avi format (other formats work, but avi seems to work the best) I use a program called "any video converter" using the xvid codec and works perfectly for me
as for menus (even though you didnt mention it) Im not real sure how it works moving items around and stuff, you have to trial and error on that part.
hopefully this helps ^_^ let me know if you have any more questions.

hmm, well, if you had a youtube video that showed that program about creating things, that would be helpful, just so i kinda see what i need... also, any links to anything at all would be appreciated... i'm not really worried about the menu, but i feel it wouldn't fit to keep the same one there is now for a new theme if i really do go all out and change things... i've got a few cool ideas in mind, so we'll see if i can find the necessary tools to make this stuff happen...

it basically breaks down to if you only know 2d you can edit textures and sprites, so you'll be able to create new menu themes, but most in game content is 3d so you are limited to colour changes only
with 3d knowledge you can change pretty much anything, notes, meters, necks, backgrounds, but its something that is quite involved, i am happy give guidance to people who want to work on 3d content but you would require a good baseline knowledge of 3d to start with

well, i basically don't know anything... but i wouldn't think it's too difficult to create a 3d model of notes/anything else... i'll do some research and see if i can find some things out, then i'll ask more questions on the matter...

alright, well just out of sheer playing around with things, i've learned how to change anything png file related... that's super easy... now i'm off to find out about the 3d stuff... the way the "notes" files are organized are extremely confusing to me however... it looks like a bunch of random stuff... i had assumed it would be just one single 3d rendering for each type of note... i definately have no idea what to do with them/about them if they are somehow spilt up into parts like it looks...

the notes are straight forward, a mesh file and a texture that is assigned to that mesh

yep.. i know absolutely nothing about what you just said (sorry, i'm a super noob)... however, just messing around with some things, i've altered some things (the background is going to change, although i do think it's kinda cool because it fits with the sound waves in the phase shift logo) basically, i changed the starpower parts so this is what you'll see once it's activated, i changed the lane dividers and beatlines to their normal forms to reduce the "light clutter" effect, and i changed the neck in paint (lol) nothing really fancy here, just showing some basic modifications that can be made (most of which were made for the sake of seeing the notes more clearly) EDIT: if you could steer me in the right direction for possibly starting on some notes, that would be appreciated... (programs and what i'd need to actually do with them) i've done more research, and i have a very vague understanding of how the mesh and texture work, but i still have no idea how to create one basically...

well the bulk of my works done in 3d studio, if you only plan to lightly dabble with things u might be better off going the zbrush route, watch some modeling tutorials for 3d studio or some zsphere tutorials for zbrush and see what suits you, i mention zspheres because its a simplied way of modeling, doesn't require as much technical knowledge, so easier to pickup and get the base work together, but there is a lot to learn in either route

alright... what do i need to learn as far as that crazy mesh stuff?? does it auto format it for me or something??
by format, i mean, "put it into a 2d picture thingy you see when you click on the file from it's folder"

well i'm fairly good with using anything autodesk related, so that's not the hard part... i'll be able to model them, i just don't know what to do from there... lol
oh, and does size matter? or does phase shift scale them automatically??

as with everything in life, size does indeed matter

if u put a box around the notes it should be about 40 wide, 10 high
