I've been requesting in a few different games the ability to create my own instrument using the same basic set of rules (buttons, sustains, HOPO/TAPO...etc.) Specifically I've been wanting to create a Trumpet Hero, I have the plastic trumpet I'm going to use for prototyping, but before I went too far I wanted to have a game that would support my efforts in the end.

well... thinking outside the box.. but I'm guessing something like this will be pretty low on the priority list

custom controllers would have to function as a keyboard, you'd use xpadder or something similar to bind it as you need

Sure, I'm not worried about getting the controller inputs into the game, but where it says "Guitar" I'd like it to say Trumpet, or better yet add Trumpet to the list of Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocal.
Indeed a low priority, but if david is coding anything and if he thinks this might be a possibility in the future, then it would make sense to be driving these names from an array, rather than hardcoding the names.

song related features are very much content driven, if there was a wide range of song charts for an alternative instrument part then we could think about supporting it, personally i like the idea of a wider range of instruments getting charted, but content would have to come first and be good / worth while, this isn't something we would be able to justify spending time on just for the idea alone
