When very dark colour is applied you can not back to white. If your colour values are positive, it is possible, but new values should be greater than 100. Why? Value 100 means that you will not change the colour. It works like additive_alpha. Imagine that your CURRENT alpha is set 0. If you change it with fx to value 100 it will actually not change. It will remain 0. You should set new value to 200 and your current alpha will be 100.
I suggest you to use second list (over first one) that display only current item. Of course its colour will be native white. Here's the code that you can use.
<list> <id>list_skill</id> <position>70,-60,0</position> <size>12</size> <leading>40</leading> <font>GH_Impact</font> <max_length>20</max_length> <justification>center</justification> <fx> <id>state</id> <sub_id>2</sub_id> <trigger>active_on</trigger> <target>alpha</target> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <end>100</end> </fx> <fx> <id>state</id> <sub_id>2</sub_id> <trigger>active_off</trigger> <target>alpha</target> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <end>0</end> </fx> <fx> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <target>colour_r</target> <end>-3</end> </fx> <fx> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <target>colour_g</target> <end>-25</end> </fx> <fx> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <target>colour_b</target> <end>-57</end> </fx> </list> <list> <id>list_skill</id> <position>70,-60,-1</position> <size>12</size> <leading>40</leading> <font>GH_Impact</font> <max_length>20</max_length> <justification>center</justification> <alpha>0</alpha> <fx> <id>state</id> <sub_id>2</sub_id> <trigger>active_on</trigger> <target>alpha</target> <additive_alpha>true</additive_alpha> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <end>-100</end> </fx> <fx> <id>state</id> <sub_id>2</sub_id> <trigger>active_off</trigger> <target>alpha</target> <additive_alpha>true</additive_alpha> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <end>-200</end> </fx> <fx> <fx_type>set</fx_type> <id>list_skill</id> <trigger>hover_on<trigger> <inherit_sub_id>true</inherit_sub_id> <target>alpha</target> <additive_alpha>true</additive_alpha> <end>200</end> </fx> </list> <!-- note that second list_skill z position is -1 (i.e. closer to you and over first list) --> <!-- there is no need using disable_on here, because this list is designed to display only available skills --> <!-- if you want you can hide current item on 1st list if you decide to scale current item on 2nd list in example. That's why modding is cool. You make it as YOU like it! -->

Is it possible to add things to the selector such as album art or difficulty? I tried but the album art was just the default screen.

Just make a difficulty list with alpha 0 and apply positive additive alpha as fx to current list item (use trigger hover on).
Album art is image with id <id>album_art</id>. It is not list, so you can't use it as difficulty list. That's not tested but, you can try it: Create list_artist and replace all list items with album art image.
<list> <id>list_artist</id> <image> <id>album_art</id> <path>images\album_art_default.png</path> <dynamic>true</dynamic> <generic_replacer>true</generic_replacer> </image> </list>
Test that and tell if it works. Thanks, djlastnight

I have sent you what I have at the moment, it is only the main screen and song select screen and they are w.i.p. My fx's are acting silly, then I press F12 and it works like I want. I was hoping for some insight as I have chased this for some time.

can you use blender instead? Why not. If you can do all I can do at 3DS Max, my answer is yes Edit: Updated RGB Converter application. For details see its thread: dwsk.proboards.com/thread/1702

I've just started to make a theme based on Left 4 Dead and I converted the main menu bik file into an avi but how exactly do I make the avi the background instead of the default Phase Shift menu image and/or video background?

how do i change the image on main menu(quick play,network.etc) Open menu_main.ini at your dynamic folder and add background code. Example code: <background> <path>images\lobby\main.png</path> <bg_type>image</bg_type> </background>
This is very simple to do. I think that You should read the whole thread if you want to make a custom theme. It will give you good starting point for you if you want to become theme creator. Thanks, djlastnight
