I am making this post because I have not seen anyone find a solution to use a Rock Band 4 Xbox and/or (possibly) PS4 Guitar on Phase Shift. This took a few days to figure out to allow XInput, but I finally got it working! WHAMMY BAR AND TILT WORK!
So to get started. You will need to download some programs to get this working.
No worries. It will be easy. This is only for the Rock Band 4 Controller to have functionality as it will not work without this due to no drivers being available for it.
Step 1: Download and install WinPcap. www.winpcap.org/
Step 2: Download and install USBPcap. desowin.org/usbpcap/
Step 3: Download and extract GuitarSniffer.zip and ScpDriver.zip github.com/artman41/FenderStratocastorSniffer/releases
Step 4: Install ScpDriver from ScpDriver.exe
These programs will probably need a restart after installing so don't forget to do that or you may run into issues.
Step 5: Make sure your guitar is synced with Xbox One wireless adapter then WHILE HOLDING your guitar in a horizontal position, Open GuitarSniffer.exe and PRESS A BUTTON TO ACTIVATE. (Launching GuitarSniffer basically calibrates the position of the guitar so it's best to keep this horizontal or in the position you play in.)
LEAVE IT OPEN ALWAYS IF PLAYING! Button inputs will show up. You will notice it has endless text if you tilt.
NOTE: This may move you mouse around which is an issue with Steam Big Picture.
NOTE 2: DO NOT LAUNCH PHASE SHIFT UNTIL GUITAR SNIFFER IS OPEN OR IT WILL NOT WORK!!!
1. Download x360ce www.x360ce.com/ 32-bit should work fine.
2. Extract x360ce.exe to your Phase Shift directory. Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Phase Shift
3. Open x360ce.exe as Administrator and you will be greeted with this message.
Then another message will appear. If this didn't appear then you probably didn't hit a button on your Guitar with GuitarSniffer.exe
Select the options from the red arrows and hit next.
(Its okay if this looks different) Select Finish and now you will see the controller is mapped on x360ce.exe but is not detected.
4. On x360ce.exe, select Advanced Tab. Disable Pass Through AND change Gamepad to Guitar under Device Sub Type then click Save.
5. Go back to General and buttons should be detected and mapped properly.
NOTE: DPad Left and Right will NOT WORK. Whammy and tilt should work.
6. NOTE: Other guitars or instruments that use xinput will not be detected properly unless you do the same steps on x360ce.exe for EACH controller you will be using with Pass Through disabled and the proper Device Sub Type. Example: Guitar, Drumkit, etc.
If this is not done, the xinput controllers will be detected as Gamepads.
It doesn't matter which is Controller 1 or Controller 2 etc. but you must make sure to do this for any xinput instrument.
I have tested this with one Rock Band 4 Guitar and 2 360 Xplorer Guitars and it worked perfectly after doing this.
7. You may now close x360ce.exe and may notice it created two files. They are called x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll
NOTE: You do NOT need to keep x360ce open anymore.
Now you may launch Phase Shift WITH GuitarSniffer.exe open and you will be able to use your Rock Band 4 Guitar!
Things to keep in mind:
If you use XPlorer Guitars with this, here are the settings. LEAVE IT AT DEFAULT FOR ROCKBAND 4 GUITAR!!!

Now you may launch Phase Shift WITH GuitarSniffer.exe open and you will be able to use your Rock Band 4 Guitar!
Things to keep in mind:
- You must turn on your Rock Band 4 Guitar before launching GuitarSniffer.exe
- You must start GuitarSniffer.exe before launching Phase Shift and keep it open while playing
- There is an alternate method that uses PSCtrl instead of x360ce but doing so will require you to disable xinput which will not allow you to use 360 instruments such as Xplorer.
- Each XInput instrument must be added and configured to x360ce once before being used with this method
- You can delete x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll if you want to revert x360ce so your xinputs won't be affected.
- You must turn on your Rock Band 4 Guitar before launching GuitarSniffer.exe
- You must start GuitarSniffer.exe before launching Phase Shift and keep it open while playing
- I have not tested whether GuitarSniffer will detect more than one Rock Band 4 Guitar
If you use XPlorer Guitars with this, here are the settings. LEAVE IT AT DEFAULT FOR ROCKBAND 4 GUITAR!!!
