In games styled like GH5, there was a new system implemented to allow SP acquired from a player--whose SP meter is already full--to overflow into other players' meters during Band play. This mechanic was first experimented with in games styled like World Tour, where vocal sections marked "Awesome!" after completion always yielded 1/12th SP (or 1/2 of 1 lightbulb) towards a SP meter which was shared by the players playing, whether it be 2-4 players.
However, in GH5 (and like games), each player had his/her own highway, multiplier, and Star Power. Any extra SP gained from any player whose SP meter is already full would "overflow" into other players' meters at these rates:
1 extra player = 25% boost per nailed SP section (1/4 SP meter filled) 2 extra players = 12.5% boost per nailed SP section (1/8 meter filled) 3 extra players = 6.25% boost per nailed SP section (1/16 meter filled)
I feel like this would be an interesting mechanic to implement, which would challenge charters like myself to rethink SP paths in order to try and utilize this mechanic (if they so choose).
In songs like Fury of the Storm in GH6, there were plenty of places for Guitar and Drums to allow overflowing SP, but I believe throughout the game this is most prevalent with vocals. Vocals got their own SP phrases, and it was easier to nail the sections, thus allowing vocalists to provide a much needed boost in overflowing SP for any and all players.
