Hi! I think the main reason of phase shift always crashing is to using a normal pc keyboard (especially a usb one) and my pc sucking a lot.
Anyway, would someone mind to make a theme optimized to more performance? Like.... I mean a white background for example?

Probably the biggest factor affecting your performance is the 3D stuff; whether you have an image or a solid color for a background isn't going to make any difference. The highest framerate I've gotten has been using the Warriors of Rock theme, which uses images for the notes and frets instead of the standard, super-high poly stuff. Seriously, the default theme has way too many polys in the models for something so small on the screen. I advise you just try the different themes and see what works. Maybe mix and match the fastest stuff from the themes you like. YMMV.
For this request in particular... a few months ago I started making a low-poly version of the default theme, but I didn't get very far. Maybe I'll try again later, but I'm just not invested enough in this game for that right now.

Warriors of rock theme is not intended for slow PCs, so better try GH metallica theme. Try it, but I really do not beleive it will work faster than the default theme, because the default theme uses less memory. I could try to create "hyperlight" theme (after week or two, because I'm busy with other stuff right now). If someone want to join me, let me know.

The polycount isn't really where we see any significant performance wins with our setup, while the notes are relatively high poly, we just aren't pushing enough polys in total for it to be where even low end gpus should really have trouble in this area, we actually had a low poly note set, was one of the graphics options at one point but got rid of it Where we do see performance issues in general is with transparency, large graphics with alpha will cause a significant performance hit on any hardware, so if someone wanted to mod the game with performance in mind you could just remove all semi transparent pixels from all the graphics and probably see a fair gain out of it, neogeo mode If you are using the abstract background mode currently then switching to 2d backgrounds will help, but the image itself shouldn't really matter. There is this if you want to use it www.mediafire.com/?apjpf0l38s9do2dIf you are really struggling make sure AA is off and maybe drop the resolution as these will have noticeable gains, also vsync can cause problems on some hardware configurations.

It'll be interesting to see how much can be squeezed out of a performance focused theme, if your having performance issues in general I don't think anyone should be viewing it as a substitute for properly configuring the settings for your hardware, but if you have done everything you can and your on the fence of being playable then maybe the themes can do enough to tip the scales in those cases, will be a nice test.

Well, if his CPU is Intel Pentium 2 and his video card is Riva TNT 2 in example, no theme will help him renatolopes, it's a nice idea to post your pc specs here..

I think I might be able to help my first suggestion for you dj is to make the options menus throughout the game to be flat like gh and rb no 3d effects on text.
I'll try to do some of my own work but I can't promise anything.

If you want to help, you could make the font, but use small resolutions (ex: 20x50px), high compression, 8 bit colours, no transperancy. Total max size of all font images: 100kb (smaller is better) I already have 276 kb font used for ghwor theme (named numbers). Font colour should be white. Due to no transperancy is allowed, you should use the same background that will be used for the theme.. and I am hoping that font edges will be invisible... I have no time to start the project now. As I already said, I will start it this Monday. The project has no name yet, so suggestions are wellcome. I have a question to David: I will try to avoid using fx. Is there something (tags) that I should avoid for best performance? Which solution will be faster: using font, list and selector or image with drawn/painted list on it and selector? (of course second is not very good idea, because it will need manual image editting on PS update/change, but it will reduce total image count..) -- Another question: Which will be faster: background or scaled image with changed z position?

Z I hear is what you use for depth in 3d so maybe that could help some.

A single images rather than using the font is much faster. The position and FX stuff are very light on the CPU.
