I think that this would be a useful feature, well, I think it'd be nice, because I don't like placing notes and having the tails touch one another, especially for vocals, where it just doesn't look good.
To clarify, what I mean is, I want to chart unpitched vocals, and to save time, I'll be in 16th notes when placing them, but because the tails touch, I'd rather have 32nd notes, but that makes placing them a bit awkward. If I could have the length of notes placed, and the grid snapping be independent, so I place 16th notes, but the lengths are 32nd, then that'd make it a lot more convenient. Just a suggestion.

I don't see a benefit to this, just set the grid snap to 1/32 and mentally place the notes on a 1/16 position as desired. You can also just change the user preference for the "min. note distance" which will enforce a gap of the specified number of milliseconds between each note/lyric.

It'd just be for cutting corners when placing lyrics, and I don't know any other application besides that. I have been doing that, with using 32nds, since it's annoying to swap back and forth, it's just sometimes inaccurate with placing the notes, and would make it a bit more convenient.
I agree it wouldn't be useful to implement, and wouldn't be helpful to anyone else, as a result, especially with the min. note distance as an option. Didn't know about that, thanks.
