i want to chart expert+ that has hi-hat and tom 1 played at the same time. is this possible or do i have to pretend that tom 1 is tom 2?

Due to the current charting limitations, you will have to "pretend" that tom 1 is tom 2 for this scenario.

If Phase Shift gets to where it supports separate cymbals and toms, I can look into adding more drum lanes or something.

I mean when they're both independent of each other, and you can have both charted at the same time. Unless I'm mistaken, it's the same limitation as with RB3 where you can't have a yellow tom and a yellow cymbal at the same time because they share the same MIDI note.

Real mode was planned to allow this, the limitation was to be for advanced only as that mode maintains compatibility with pro kits while real was to offer more accurate charting support without those restrictions, but I don't think the details around how this would be handled were decided on so currently has not made it into the game

it seems like the midi chart would be sampled at a bitrate that is above human perceptions so as to allow for signal to be sent close enough in milliseconds that humans would not know the differences if the commands where not executed at same true mathematical time. is this not the case?

As in putting a cymbal note one MIDI click before or after a tom note of the same lane color? I guess you COULD pull that off, but it makes the chart sloppy.

I guess you COULD pull that off, but it makes the chart sloppy. i would not want to do that. the song i was charting has hits on tom 1 and the hi-hat at the same time for most of the song. it would take forever to make all those really tight flams. making a chart like that would also break expert compatibility and only work in expert+. it would have to be coded in to phase shift to ignore overlapping notes in expert because you may not be able to see that it is 2 notes on the chart.

It'll be looked into, as mentioned this is already a planned feature.

IV GOT IT..... DISCO FLIP!!!! in adv. drums, it would have tom1 and hihat1 playing at the same time but in normal it would have tom 1 and snare playing at the same time. i have no idea how you would chart it, but that could be something that someone could figure out how to implement.
