I could use one more piece of information, can everyone that has signed up state if they have a suitable setup for hosting, ie reliable, decent speed connection, know how to map ports in the router

I could never host, knowing that my upstream is less than a meg.
I'm pretty familiar with forwarding ports, though.

I think i will be able to host through a dedicated computer in germany. Not sure yet. But if its just for the event then the possibilities are high.

i doubt i would be a suitable host for a large crowd but i am most likely able to host for at least a few people if needed.. i just haven't really hosted for more than 1 person much if ever (i can't remember)

just for a general status update
seems like we have a good amount of people for testing now, we should have enough players and locations to get all the key situations tested to hunt down any bugs and issues, more people are still welcome as potentially there are always people that will have last minute problems and may not make it, but so far things are looking good
To give some details about what people should expect, the exact time is still to be confirmed but we need all the time we can get right now to get the game ready, so it would most likely be the sunday we are aiming for, and looking at the timezones we are probably going to have to pick a time in the evening (gmt), in future we can do a regional split if needed, but for testing purposes we want to make sure this one is all together at the same time so we can test international games, so potentially looking at something like 6pm GMT, so its not too late for some and not too early for others.
due to the amount of code changes in the version of the game we will be using for the event it could have some unexpected new bugs, so when people get the next version the first step will be for everyone to install and play one normal game on their machine and confirm the game is working as expected, and get everything setup that they need so you aren't having to change settings once we start
once we get to that stage we'll work out some group games to test a variety of situations, high player counts, long distance games, new gameplay modes
depending on the results, we may have to spend some time dealing with random bugs and sending out new versions, if we manage to maintain a playable state for enough people we can attempt a mini tournament using a similar layout to a proper one, but we need to know enough bugs are fixed to ensure fair gameplay, if there are some obvious bugs that screw with the scoring system then we may just run the event as unofficial, so scores will only be logged for testing and not effect the leaderboards
right now we don't know how things will play out and will likely have to make adjustments on the fly based on what the issues we run into but thanks to everyone that will be helping out and stay tuned for more details

we are still busy trying to get the event version of the game working, getting close now but we keep finding random bugs and stuff that have snuck in, but aiming for this afternoon for us, which is around 5-6 hours from now
i don't think we can handle spectators for this due to it being a tester and there will be enough complications already, maybe we can try get some videos recorded of random games if we can do that without lagging out players
also to everyone thats signed up, we'll be using the chatango message box for general coordination outside of the game so everyone thats signed up please make sure you have a username setup for that
