Hi! I'm wondering if it's already possible to play this game using the PS3 RB3 Wireless Fender Mustang PRO-Guitar? I have read somewhere that currently, only the xbox360 Pro-Guitar is compatible, is it true?
Would it be possible to use the 6 String Fender Stratocaster soon?
I have try hard to make it work but I think it might just not be ready :/
Thanks for your answer!

we haven't had a chance to check the ps3 controller to see if it can be supported, we don't have access to one so if you want to run some tests we can see if it has potential to work

Hi, if you could first give me some vital information about if the driver you are using support all the axis and buttons.
Can you go into the Gamepad control panel in windows and tell me which axis/buttons are effected by each of the 6 fret buttons on the 7th fret. Also can you tell me which axis/buttons are effected when each of the 6 strings are plucked.
If you can give me a rough idea as to what the basic axis links are I can then send you a more advanced test app to work out the details and hopefully get the controller supported. Thanks David

Ok I will try to explore it more using Gamepad control panel and I'm gonna let you know the result of my test.
BTW, I'm not a PC noob so feel free to refer me to more complicated workaround/test/apps. I'm a hobbyist game developer.
Phase Shift is not open source right?

Ok Using the Windows Game Controllers Panels it give me a panel showing differents buttons/axis.
The point of view hat work fine with the control pad.
4 buttons work fine: X= 2 O= 3 Square = 1 Triangle = 4
Select = 9 Start = 10 Home = 13
I can't get any axis to move...
None of the frets buttons do something...
Nothing happen when the 6 strings are plucked...
What's next? I will keep investigating for solutions

if windows isn't seeing the inputs then may have to look into the alternative driver route, i don't know how many there are floating around but i've seen this one mentioned before, www.motioninjoy.com/download be interesting to know if that offers any better functionality

I was not able to find my PS3 guitar using motion in joy...
When I try the guitar as a controller in the game, I get this error message as soon as I press a button: " Alert! Unkown Controller (Please Profile Your Device)"
Here's a part of the gamelog:

I have created a new device in the DL.ini and now I can use my PS3 guitar in-game as a limited controller . D-pad works fine. 2 button = ok/cancek 2 others button = up/down No start/select/frets button working. I have only duplicate a xbox guitar device from the bottom and I have use the value given by the gamelog so I wasn't expecting it to work fine but at least no error window For your Xbox pro guitar, the device is hardcoded? I can't see any reference to it <DEVICE> <NAME>Harmonix RB3 Mustang Guitar for PlayStation®3</NAME> <FNAME>Harmonix RB3 Mustang Guitar for PlayStation®3</FNAME> <VID>4794</VID> <PID>9264</PID> <MAGICBUTTON>-1</MAGICBUTTON> <MAGICDATA>-1</MAGICDATA> <XROTCEN>32129</XROTCEN> <GYROCUTOFF>99</GYROCUTOFF> <TYPE>2</TYPE> <BUTTONS> <GREEN>48,128,0</GREEN> <RED>49,128,0</RED> <YELLOW>51,128,0</YELLOW> <BLUE>50,128,0</BLUE> <ORANGE>53,128,0</ORANGE> <UP>32,0,4294967295</UP> <DOWN>32,18000,4294967295</DOWN> <LEFT>32,27000,4294967295</LEFT> <RIGHT>32,9000,4294967295</RIGHT> <BACK>54,128,0</BACK> <START>55,128,0</START> <STRUMUP>32,0,4294967295</STRUMUP> <STRUMDOWN>32,18000,4294967295</STRUMDOWN> <WHAMMY>8,127,32767</WHAMMY> <SLIDER>8,65407,32767</SLIDER> <XGYRO>0,65535,0</XGYRO> <YGYRO>4,0,65535</YGYRO> <BASS>52,128,0</BASS> </BUTTONS> </DEVICE>

The trouble is that Phase Shift has no way of getting the fret and string data if your drivers don't support the axis. The fret and string data is encoded into the axis data. Without these axis working there is no way to get the fret and string data from the guitar. Hopefully someone will create a custom driver for the PS3 Pro Guitars but untill then I don't know of another way to extract the data. Thanks David

Could we expect the XBox 3 Midi adapter plugged into the PS3 mustang to work? The mustang has midi out and this seems like a more reasonable way to get things working than expecting someone to write a driver for the Ps3 mustang. Still reading threads as to whether or not the Squier + Xbox 360 Midi adapter is functioning. I do sometimes regret going with the PS3 for Rock band

I haven't tried Squier+MPA in Phase Shift for a while now. The last time I did, I believe the guitar was detected, but it was picking up extra strums somewhere, it might have been the keep alive signal that's sent every 3 seconds. I'd have to do some more testing, maybe I can do so tonight.
P.S. If the Squier + MPA is detected, then the Mustang (for any console) + MPA should work, but I'll see if I can verify that.

I was meaning to chase you up about this. I was going to ask if all the frets work correctly. Frets 18-22 I haven't been able to test so I'm not sure if I've decoded them correctly. I assume you mean that Mustang (for any console) + XBOX 360 MPA should work. Thanks David

All of the Squier's frets are detected, all the way up to 22. I have the guitar connected to the computer through the Xbox 360 MIDI Pro Adapter. I find that when playing Phase Shift 0.77 this way:
1. When I fret a string Phase Shift immediately bumps the fretboard as if I picked a string incorrectly, even though I didn't pick any strings. 2. Just holding the string, Phase Shift soon bumps the fretboard again as if I picked a string incorrectly, even though I didn't pick any strings. The string's fret indicator is reset to "0" as if I had let go of the string. 3. When I do let go of the string, the fretboard bumps again. 4. When I touch nothing else, the fretboard will soon bump again.
By watching the flash that appears on the MPA every 3 seconds to coincide with the Squier's keep alive signal, it seems likely that the extra fretboard bumps at #2 and #4 above are being triggered by the keep alive signal. The extra fretboard bumps will break a sustained note and as far as I can tell, the player's streak. Even though the fret indicator gets reset to 0, Phase Shift will count a hit note/chord if it was played correctly.
I tested the Mustang connected to the MPA via MIDI cable and Phase Shift detected it and it worked with the same bumping behavior as the Squier. It is a confirmation that the Mustang for any console should work in Phase Shift as long as it is connected to an Xbox 360 MPA though, which is good news.
At this point, I'm guessing that the slightly different communication syntax is causing this bumpy gameplay, but I am optimistic that it will be fixable. Please let me know if you want me to test any specific string fretting and picking and send you the MIDI dump.
