As far as i see it, it falls into the same category as ripped content, some people claim game recordings as transformative work, they are adding their own content to the video, but in the case of raw background videos you can't even claim that, its just a direct rip of something else and the fact it needed to be ripped / recorded in the first place tells you its being used in a way other than originally intended so you can't assume it is acceptable, so as always we'd need something to show it is ok, until we have something like that it falls under the standard rules.

I think the content of this post does not break any rules, and I do not give any information of my work likely to cause offense or complaints. Everything is hosted on another website where anyone who wants to is free to enter and read the contents

I have to agree with mister Knapman here, I'm pretty sure he loves the work a lot of people are doing to customize the game, but we can never be to careful, specially when the devs of RB and GH are such bitches that cry about just about everything that has even the slightest similarity with their games. Fuck em, but since the law is on their side, we have to be careful.
EDIT : If you guys want a quick laugh, Harmonix sued Konami for copying rockband in a game they have made, and konami basically pwnt them in court arguing that of course, they invented the genre. Harmonix dropped the charges, lulz were had.

So what is the purpose of phase shift? is it a new game that has not been invented yet?. so we would be if we start talking about that all games are copies of other games. If this game allows editing and creation of mods and there is a mod that simulates rock band already if we are copying the original game even more as I think everyone with phase shift here installed on your computer using the mod the rock band. so at this point it seems irrelevant to talk about videos without sound or anything is completely stupid.

If you add a second audio track featuring the sounds of the dutch swallow you can bypass 93% of all cougar based copyright infringements

Dont take it personally crixux, knapman is just keeping the forums clean of any direct link to copyrighted material or anything that could put in risk the project.
It doesnt take much for big companies to take down an indie project like this. And nobody here wants that.

To be fair, Frets on Fire's been around for ages, and look how much copyrighted stuff they have on their forum. lol..Themes w/ ripped graphics, songs ripped straight from the games, backgrounds, etc.
I do gotta wonder though.. If video backgrounds aren't allowed, would that mean something as simple as a picture of Rockband not be allowed? Or for that matter, a picture of the RockBand logo, such as the one in the first post of this topic. I mean, the logo is copyrighted too. I'm just confused as to what exactly can and can't be posted due to 'copyright'. (not that I plan to post anything copyrighted anyway, the most I post is necks occasionally, and they're usually made from scratch.)

If its just some screenshots or pictures im not going to worry about that, as this kind of content is often given out officially, promo material etc, with fairly flexible usage, i'll only worry about that if someone actually made an objection to it, the problem is more with ripped content.
The fof forum gets away with what they do likely because its very much an underground project at this point, there is no real mainstream recognition of the current form of the game, since it went from fof to fofix. To be honest I thought the project was much more interesting when it was still fof, when it had its own identity, but over time it all got stripped away, ultimately to a very unsatisfying result. It filled a gap at the time but long term i don't think it benefited from the direction it went, its certainly no role model for how to do things.
I think its essential we go our own direction and maintain a strong identity, create a legitimate project and seeing where that takes us. Its great being able to focus on original content, nothing better than seeing a good indie band popup and getting their songs into the game officially, I think we have far more to offer this way.
Fan projects / customisations can be great and appeal to a lot of people, but it is important they run along side the game rather than consume it completely. It is a harder direction to take the project as you don't get the quick easy results, but I hope long term we'll be better off for it. I'll be doing everything I can to ensure the project stays healthy and keep it moving in a positive direction.

I do not take it personally but JD does not seem right to get and write "go on holiday for a few days And This happens" without saying anything more as if your job did not mind at all when my intendion is to collaborate in the forum the best way you can.

This program allows editing and creation of mods and customizable content, is not very strange That the users want to make the game the close similar to the real rock band game. From what you say has received complaints about this post? The creators of rock band maybe?...

And they don't want the game using copyrighted songs. They want the game to be it's own thing, using songs people give them to use. By allowing copyrighted stuff to be posted, it's just gonna turn Phase Shift into Frets on Fire.
