It should be pretty easy to implement in EOF, we'd just need to settle on notation. How does Drum Mania mark notes as open versus closed?
Also, can anybody confirm if Phase Shift can identify cymbals separately from pads (ie. can tell the difference between yellow cymbal and yellow pad)? If so, I could look into a mode in EOF to give cymbals separate lanes, so 7 lane drums can be fully charted. This would bring us pretty close to Drum Mania's use of 8 lanes (it uses a lane for bass pedal as I recall).

The problem with this is from what I can tell, the RB3 controllers don't allow you to hit the Yellow Cymbal and Pad at the same time. This is the same limitation that RB3 charting has. Phase shift does not have this limitation but it's currently limited by the Controllers and Charts. Thanks David

well we went with the 7 lane system so we could chart full 7 lanes properly, the rb toggle method is only there for backwards compatibility, but the plan from the start was to offer fully unrestricted 7 lane charting support using new triggers, so we maintain compatibility but also can move forward using a better system
i don't believe we have decided on a specific method to accomplish this yet as we need to minimise risk of conflicts that may come up in future, we have the same situation with the slider notes and open bass notes, we need to pick a new triggers for these as we want to have secondary non-conflicting triggers for anything that is currently limiting the way you can chart, ie there is no reason you shouldn't be able to have a forced green hopo in bass mode, its a pointless restriction that can easily be fixed by having a secondary trigger, we want it to be possible for all features to work together at the same time and not have split features for different types of charts
so to see some progress in this area the first step is to identify the most logical and safest way to add these features into the current format, suggestions would be welcome, the sooner we can agree on a good method the quicker we could get it functional
on the hi-hat subject, its something we are interested in but likely to be a while before we have time to look into something like that

I don't see a good way to fix open notes without breaking compatibility. And if you're going to break compatibility, you might as well just allow people to chart open notes on the note below green (assuming it's available). This also allows for HOPO open notes.
If you still want to maintain compatibility... I don't know, maybe a text event to switch between the two systems? This could be annoying for people to remember to put in each time, though.

david and I have been communicating about a marker system that uses Sysex messages instead of Note On/Off events. This is a bit more complicated to parse in the MIDI, but the main benefit is we can define pretty much as many markers as we want with absolutely no chance that it breaks compatibility with the Note On/Off system. I sent david and knapman a prototype chart using Sysex markers for open strum bass, and if this works well for Phase Shift, we could add any new markers we want without any worries (pro guitar slides, hat open/close, slider phrases, etc).

What we need is a configuration to move the lanes up and down in the program instead of them being stuck at the bottom. What would be the purpose of this? By setting the resolution to something like 1600x1280 we could use our tv to extend the desktop and be able to run 3 or 4 lanes, 1 or 2 on computer and 2 on the tv without the bottom being cut off. If we shifted the background to the bottom, we would not cut off the bottom of the fret board, making extended desktop a temporary solution to multiple monitor support, and it would be another thing that could be customized in phase shift. Which may make some themes stand out more.

setup your displays correctly and nothing gets cut off, this already works

Then you should at least let it tile above the tracks instead of making the lanes smaller, you could add players above existing players, which would keep the size up some.

file format isn't a factor, so this doesn't effect anything

having an accessible format for animation is a factor.

Unless you're talking about a modifier or an independent mode in itself.
