I think it's time for me to speak on this.
I, too, am a composer, and one of the reasons I became one was because, for some reason, the Guitar Hero Community decided to stop releasing multi-tracks as a standard. For this very reason, there is no song that I release, that doesn't contain multi-tracks. Even though, I will admit, I don't do them as properly as I should like.
My point with this is, I make music, I release my music for free, and with as many tracks and charts to correspond with the tracks as I can. And to top this whole thing off, I do not support the idea of encryption for the music files for the songs.

My point with this is, I make music, I release my music for free, and with as many tracks and charts to correspond with the tracks as I can. And to top this whole thing off, I do not support the idea of encryption for the music files for the songs. C3 has three artists that I'm aware of, Nightmare Lyra, Gigakoops and EdtanGuy. The three of them compose their music, chart their music, and release it with multitracks. That's their choice. Equally if you ever decide to share your music for use with Rock Band customs through C3, you would have the choice. The forced encryption C3 has put into place is for songs to which we don't own the rights to: i.e., songs that could, in theory, get C3 in legal trouble. To minimize that exposure, the songs are encrypted. Not going back into the pros and cons of doing it, just explaining the thought process behind it.

You're all aware that everyone with an account on fretsonfire.net has been having unrestricted access to almost all the multitracks for Guitar Hero and Rock Band for years, right? I may be wrong on this, but I don't think the apocalypse happened...
Because I have to mention it, I really don't get the C3 multitrack policy at all ESPECIALLY the lies regarding "it's impossible to decrypt" while releasing programs that freely decrypt custom (and official) songs so that they can be used as a media player. Also, CONtools seems to have no problems decrypting and encrypting. Having the multitracks usable on the console versions (not sure about the Wii version though) while mixed down for Phase Shift is a little ridiculous. All this talk about "protecting the artists." I'm pretty sure artists (read: record labels) would be more upset over the fact that their music is being distributed without them being paid for it regardless if it has separated multitracks or not. However, I totally support the idea that if you want official DLC for Rock Band then you shouldn't try to load it on your console as if it were custom, and it should be bought legally. It's good to support Harmonix especially after the hard financial troubles they've been going through lately.
EDIT: Sorry. I was a little frustrated over the astounding amount of half-assed Rocksmith customs. They have absolutely no standards, and the bass charts are almost always inaccurate aside from most Rush songs. That's one thing I do love C3 for though - its standards and customs community.
